Incredible location to everything! Short, 5 minute walk to Canary Row and a few more minutes to all the seals. The Old Wharf is then a few minutes further. The hostel is very clean, friendly staff and nice sized rooms. Beds were super comfy and the kitchen had everything. Would definitely stay here again!

We went there for Christmas 2025, and everyone was very welcoming 🎄. The atmosphere was warm, and people were mingling, which was really cool 😊. They have two fire pits 🔥 and a barbecue pit 🍖 outside, it must be a blast in the summer ☀️. The price was very reasonable, and we had a private suite with a bathroom, which was fantastic 🛏️. Most importantly, the place is very clean ✨, friendly 🤗, and well-maintained. I would visit anytime without hesitation 👍.

A wonderful newly renovated hostel. Now the private rooms have private baths! We had a great stay due to the perfect location. The common areas allowed to easily meet folks. Great smore's evening on Saturday.

I work on a trail crew with 11 other people and the staff at this hostel have been so kind and accommodating every time we’ve stayed! The location is perfect, as it is a five minute walk from cannery row, and the rooms are clean and cozy! We forest kids are bummed to be leaving the area and will look back fondly on our time spent at the Monterey hostel

Very friendly staff , very cutely decorated outside and inside and nice kitchen if you need to cook. Very close to everything and overall a beautiful stay I will be back!! Also very affordable

Incredible spot. New, clean, spacious, and well-designed. The facilities are as nice as I've seen in any hostel I've been to, and I've been to several. The staff was super accommodating, and the owner was especially kind. So much to do in the area, and staying at this hostel is a great way to experience a place like Monterey on a budget. 10/10 would recommend!

This was a great stay. The staff were super nice, and the room and bathroom were perfectly clean. I opted for the private room since the price wasn’t much different than booking bunks for two people. There was a great lobby area with space for cooking, and the location was perfect for walking to downtown Monterey. It’s clear a lot of intentionality went into making this hostel what it is.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Monterey Hostel. We reserved a room because we had 4 adults. It was very clean, and well decorated. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The kitchen/shared space was very inviting and had a ton of equipment. I would stay here again in the future.

This place rules. We stayed here in 2018 and it was great. We stayed again in Sept. '25, and it was amazing. The team who remodeled the place did a stellar job. The staff were kind and attentive without being overbearing. Fellow guests were super respectful. The kitchen area was spotless, even after seeing a dozen people use it during our stay. Our rooms were comfortable and clean, to the point where my wife looked up not only which company sold these blankets, but which detergent the Monterey Hostel uses. It's walking distance to Cannery Row, and a quick drive to downtown Monterey. Great value for an inexpensive, but delightful stay.

Absolutely incredible place to stay in Monterey! The hostel is super artsy, with a wide-open kitchen setup and plenty of parking. The bedrooms and bathrooms are super clean, and the staff is incredibly helpfull and kind. I checked in late at night (after 7pm during winter hours), yet they were super quick to respond over text with my door code and making sure I was alright for the night. I actually ran into the staff member who had been texting me over the Monterey Hostel phoneline as he was leaving to go home, because he didn't want to leave the hostel before I was able to enter with my code. They go above and beyond for the people staying at the hostel. Also, the hostel is in perfect walking distance from the beach and shops in downtown Monterey. I stay here everytime I come to Monterey bay for freediving, and I know a couple scuba divers stay here too!
